MBF Customers Confirmed Safe in Chile

Saturday’s 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Chile caused devastation throughout the country. Concerned about the safety of our customers in the region, MBF Bioscience co-founder Edmund Glaser and Staff Scientist Jose Maldonado checked in with Dr. Jorge Mpodozis of the Universidad de Chile, in Santiago.

“Electrical power is still very unstable,” Dr. Mpodozis said. “The same can be said about communications. We hope that all of this will return to normal soon. Santiago was hit hard but this is nothing compared to the cataclysm that occurred in the south-central zone. There, the disaster is incredible.”

Maldonado explained that while the university lost much of their equipment in the earthquake, Dr. Mpodozis and his colleagues are alive and in the process of getting their lives back in order.

“We have the people of Chile in our thoughts and wish them the best as they recover,” said MBF Bioscience President Jack Glaser.

The American Red Cross has pledged $250,000 for relief operations in Chile. To aid in the effort, you can make a donation to the organization’s International Response Fund at redcross.org
