SLICE Laser Safety

The SLICE system utilizes two Class IIIb (3B) laser sources for illumination, each capable of emitting single-wavelength excitation at 450 nm, 520 nm, and 640 nm, with output powers below 210 mW. All SLICE users should be fully aware of these specifications and adhere strictly to the Class 3B laser safety protocols established in your facility.

Recommended laser-safety precautions

For your safety, adhere to the following laser-safety precautions when one or both SLICE lasers are powered on:

  • Keep the front lid of the enclosure in the closed position. The SLICE system is designed to operate safely with the front lid closed, without the need to wear laser-safety goggles during operation.

  • Never look directly into a laser beam even when wearing goggles.

  • Understand that the laser beam(s) may not be visible by eye. Always confirm that the lasers are off before opening the front lid and/or removing laser-safety goggles.

  • If you choose to wear eye protection as a precaution, follow these recommendations:

    • Select the correct laser safety goggles for the operating wavelength. Different wavelengths may require different goggles.

    • Inspect goggles for any cracks or damage before each use.

    • Be aware that goggles do not provide full protection from side-entry beams. Always consider potential exposure.
