Create New Data File

Purpose

Create New Data File closes the currently open data file. Use this command to start over with Neurolucida or move the reference point to a different location.

You can also access this function from the Quick Access toolbar at the top left of the main window or the 3D Visualization window.

See also Reference point for an overview of the reference point concept and Align Tracing or Joy Free for other methods to move the reference point.

Procedure

  1. Click the icon on the Quick Access toolbar or click File > Create New Data File.

If you have not saved the current data file, you will be prompted to do so.

  2. The New Data File dialog opens. Check the box(es) to:

    • Close all images: Check the box to close any images that are currently open

    • New reference point: This option is available if the computer running Neurolucida is connected to a microscope.

      • Check the box to change the location of the reference point. You may want to move the reference point to a more biologically relevant location.

      • Leave unchecked to keep the reference point in the same location.

  3. The current data file closes and any data, such as traced structures and/or markers, are removed.

If you are tracing multiple sections of the same specimen, it is usually preferable to use the Serial Section Manager, rather than saving each section in a separate data file.
