Adjusting the spine color scheme
MicroDynamix software offers two color schemes for display of dendritic spines; they are described below.
Click the button for the desired color scheme to apply it.
Standard Color
Standard Color is the default color scheme. When selected, spines are assigned random colors. If you then classify spines, their color will change to correspond with the assigned spine type.
When comparing a series of images, the Standard Color scheme is useful for differentiating dendritic spines from one another, especially when there are many spines close together.
Change Ratio
The Change Ratio color scheme shows the results of the Change ratio analysis. All spines in the first timepoint are shown in gray. In later timepoints, spine color reflects changes from the previous timepoint as follows:
- Gray: Spines identified in timepoint 1
- Blue: New
- White: Stable
- Green: Growing
- Yellow: Shrinking
- Black: Lost—in the timepoint before they are lost, spines are colored black when they are not present in the next timepoint
- Red: Reappear—spines that are present after being lost in a previous time point
