Each system we configure is customized to the needs of your lab or facility. Our proven 3-step protocol ensures that you get a reliable system for your research.

A system for neuron tracing configured on a Zeiss microscope
Most of our systems are configured with brightfield or fluorescence microscopes, but we will work with just about any research grade microscope to help you collect the data you need for your research.
Recently Dr. Paul Manger at the University of Witwatersrand South Africa asked us to build a highly specialized system for imaging and analyzing large mammalian brain specimens such as elephant and hippopotamus. To accommodate these large tissue specimens, we used a Zeiss Axio Imager Vario microscope which is predominately used in the semiconductor industry for inspecting silicon wafers. The motorized stage we commissioned from Ludl Electronic Products is enormous - it can hold tissue specimens with dimensions of up to 30cm x 40cm. This custom hardware, combined with Neurolucida, Stereo Investigator, and Biolucida software, allows Dr. Manger to capture 2D and 3D whole slide images of large tissue specimens, quantitatively analyze the specimens, and share the images with other scientists in a repository of African vertebrate brains. This scale of imaging and analysis of large brains is not currently done in any other laboratory in the world.

The system, nicknamed "The Beast," is exceeding their expectations. The lab imaged 240 tissue sections in four days with the system. This involved pre-focusing and background correcting for four different immuno stains. They imaged 60 tissue sections with each stain type at 20x magnification.
