Cycloids for Lv
Purpose
|
Use the Cycloids for Lv probe to estimate the ratio of total line length to unit volume. Stereo Investigator software displays sets of short test curves (cycloids) in a grid pattern over the material to be examined. You will place markers where the cycloids cross the projected lineal features of interest. |
Requirements
- Vertical slices of constant thickness with a random rotation around an identifiable vertical axis
- Lineal features with a very small cross-sectional area.
Procedure
- Click Probes>Length>Cycloids for Lv to open the corresponding window.
- Enter Section Cut Thickness and Cycloid Width, then click OK. The program displays a test grid of cycloids and angles.
The Cycloid Width is the vector distance from endpoint to endpoint of the cycloid line segment.
- Adjust the vertical axis.
- Right-click and select Define Vertical Axis.
- Drag the head of the arrow to align the white vertical axis with the vertical axis of the tissue.
- Right-click and select Accept.
- Click to mark wherever the cycloid curves cross the lineal features of interest.
- Mark intersections in all focal planes of the tissue.
- Mark the angles wherever they are located within the region of interest.
- When done marking all intersections, right-click and click Exit Cycloid.
- Results are displayed immediately in the Sampling Results window.
