New Workflow Process Streamlines Stereology

We dramatically changed the user interface in Stereo Investigator to make the optical fractionator stereological protocol more intuitive, efficient, and easier to learn and use. Released with version 7.0—and improved in version 7.5—the new Workflow window is a revolution in stereology software. It takes you step-by-step through the systematic process of an optical fractionator probe run—from configuring your study through analyzing data. By providing clear instructions for implementing each part of the study, the Workflow decreases training time and is easier to learn. The Workflow increases the confidence of users by ensuring all of the proper steps are performed in the correct sequence without searching through the menus or toolbars.

The Workflow window ensures validity of your results by warning you of any potential errors before performing a stereological run. Visible indicators at each step provide you with relevant options and ask for your input. The Workflow also manages the software control settings to move seamlessly between tasks by removing redundant manual adjustments.

Easily save and apply study and sampling parameters identified during a pilot study or a previous study to each animal in the experiment. View multiple analyses from multiple sections in the control panel, allowing efficient data collection without needless switching between low and high power objectives.

The Workflow window provides quick navigation to individual regions of interest, serial sections, and stereological runs. Because all runs are grouped according to region of interest, data acquisition has a natural flow. You can halt runs and resume them at will, and see a list of incomplete stereological runs. To resume a run, simply select the incomplete run and click “Start”. Verify runs using the original SRS overlay.
