Eunice Kennedy Shriver Tribute
|
| In honor of Eunice Kennedy Shriver who died this past Tuesday, we would like to offer our own special tribute from Dr. Ed Glaser, co-founder of MBF. The computer microscope mentioned is the ancestor of Neurolucida and Stereo Investigator. “Eunice Kennedy Shriver passed away today. In about 1961 she and her husband Sargent (originator of the Peace Corps) visited Hendrik Van der Loos and me in his neuroanatomy lab at John Hopkins University. Hendrik had applied for a grant from the newly established Kennedy Shriver Foundation. They personally visited and queried us one-on-one for an hour about the newly-conceived computer microscope that we were asking funding for. Both were on their toes, bright, delightful, and friendly. She was a beautiful, tall, gracious lady. Hendrik did most of the presentation, a walk around the lab show-and-tell. I guess we did a good job; we got the money. End (and beginning) of story.” |
