Deconvolution Extension Module
A Software-Only Solution for Clearer Images and Accurate Data
Accurate images for accurate data
Deconvolution allows researchers to work with clearer microscopic images to obtain more accurate quantitative results using methods such as stereology and 3D reconstruction. Deconvolution clarifies and sharpens previously acquired images by removing noise and scattered light using a mathematical algorithm.
Our Deconvolution Extension Module integrates deconvolution software directly within Neurolucida, Stereo Investigator and Microlucida. Using Huygens’ renowned algorithm, this software calculates the light’s path through your specific microscope and onto your specimen, and then reverses that calculation to put scattered light back to its original location, providing you with a clearer image that is a better representation of the original specimen.
Benefits of deconvolution
- More accurate quantification – reduce uncertainty when looking at hard to see structures by working with the clearest possible images.
- Better images from existing microscopes.
- An affordable, software-only solution for clearer, more accurate images acquired with widefield-fluorescence and confocal microscopes.
- A fully integrated hardware and software system, supported by a single company.
- Easy to use and maintain and does not require extensive training.
More accurate stereology with deconvolved images
The Deconvolution Extension Module provides you with clearer images so you can use Stereo Investigator for a more accurate estimate of cell populations and morphometric properties of biological structures. Using the built-in workflows in Stereo Investigator, you can acquire multi-channel 3D image stacks at each of your systematic random sampling sites. You then deconvolve the images, and use these clarified images on a Stereo Investigator workstation for offline analysis. Stereo Investigator with the Deconvolution Extension Module can work unattended so you can acquire multi-channel 3D image stack series or acquire multi-channel 2D and 3D image montages without needing to be at the microscope.
Clearer image stacks with better resolution for automatic and manual 3D neuron reconstructions
Quantitative morphology and 3D reconstructions with deconvolved images on a Neurolucida workstation with AutoNeuron provides you with more accurate data by allowing you to more clearly resolve small structures, such as fine axons and dendritic spines. Use the Deconvolution Extension Module to create clear, high-contrast images and then use those images seamlessly with AutoNeuron for accurate automatic neuron tracing.
Easily improve 2D & 3D image montages and 3D image stacks
The Deconvolution Extension Module can also remove light contamination from 2D or 3D image montages and 3D image stacks acquired using the Structured Illumination Extension Module with Microlucida.
Improve multi-channel virtual slides
Combing the Deconvolution Extension Module with the Virtual Slice or Virtual Tissue modules in Neurolucida, Stereo Investigator or Microlucida allows you to improve virtual slides easily for more accurate analysis and visualization for publication or archiving.
