About MBF Bioscience
Mission
The MBF mission is to provide the best solutions and service to biological researchers worldwide to assist in the pursuit of scientific knowledge. Through superior tools, expert technological advice, and dependable support we believe we can help researchers reach their objectives faster and more efficiently.
History
MBF Bioscience was founded as MicroBrightField, Inc. in 1987 by Jack R. Glaser, former director of the Computer Morphometric Facility of the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at the University of Vermont School of Medicine; and his father, Dr. Edmund M. Glaser, professor emeritus of Physiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Their goal was to develop powerful and affordable neuroanatomical imaging software for the research community.
Neurolucida is the product of over 40 years of pioneering experience in neuroimaging. Dr. Glaser co-developed the first computer microscope in 1964, and the Image Combining Computer Microscope in 1980 with the late Dr. Hendrik Van der Loos. Today, the company’s flagship product, Neurolucida, is the most widely used Neuron Tracing and Brain Mapping system in research laboratories throughout the world. Stereo Investigator has also become the most widely used design based stereology system.
MBF Bioscience’s commitment to customer support has gained high praise from distinguished scientists in various disciplines who use our products all over the world.
Our team at MBF has won a reputation for developing systems that continue to evolve to meet research demands in the constantly advancing fields of computer microscopy. Our product development group is actively engaged with bioscience researchers worldwide to constantly refine and improve our products. Several of our products have been partially funded by the National Institutes of Health (SBIR program).
MicroBrightField to MBF Bioscience
Why the name change?
MBF Bioscience has recently changed its name from MicroBrightField. We are the same people and ownership that you have been familiar with since Jack Glaser and his father, Edmund Glaser, started the company over 18 years ago. The difference is that our product and service offerings have broadened. Our solutions are still being used in hundreds of neuroscience labs worldwide, but are also increasingly used in diverse bioscience research labs in the fields of stem cell research, cancer research and a number of other bioscience research areas. As you may have noticed, MBF is very active in developing systems and solutions for confocal microscopy. We have supported widefield fluorescence, darkfield, EM, and confocal microscopy – in addition to brightfield – for years. We chose our new name to reflect this.
You can continue to expect the same high level of professional, personal service that you have enjoyed for years from MicroBrightField. You can also expect to see a broader range of products while we continue our dedication to solutions for neuroscience and more expansively, bioscience research.
